Maggie: These portraits bookend our Easter Sunday. The girls fresh in the morning, in pink dresses with gingham bows. Rob took this photo of Maggie before I took the latest photo in our monthly twin portrait series (see the hashtag #huttwinsmonthlysnap on Instagram). The girls had the best day, with an Easter hunt at home in our garden as well as one later in the day with their cousins at my parents home.
Elisabeth: I took a more reflective portrait of Elisabeth in the evening of our Easter Sunday. Perhaps coming down from her sugar high?

Maggie: She said her first real sentence this week. After a week of requesting jelly (they have been watching Nanny Plum on Ben and Holly's little kingdom wreaking havoc with her jelly floods), I finally made some, and Maggie scoffed down her first serve, then looked at me and said "More jelly please?" How could I say no? Her chattering is increasing daily which is a delight. She had a rough week with a tummy bug on Thursday before bouncing back in time for Easter, unfortunately I came down with it in the middle of Easter lunch!
Elisabeth: I know her eyes are shut, but it would seem amiss not to document her "smile" for the camera look. Loving her curls. She was a star at the Easter egg hunts this weekend, rushing about snaffling treats and collecting them in her basket. But without prompting she also happily offered her eggs to her Nan-Nan and us!

I couldn't help myself, the girls have been reading a board book about Easter for weeks. Their favourite page was of foil covered easter eggs. So this morning, the Easter Bunny left them a basket of eggs each. They were super excited and spent the next five minutes picking them up and popping them in their mouths (still in their foil) then dropping them on the floor. It was worth it just to see their excitement. They did get one small egg each, the rest were hidden away quickly.

Maggie: the look of surprise!
Elisabeth: trying desperately to take the foil off.

Happy Easter.

Snap it {sweet}

I have eaten far too many of these in the lead up to Easter.
They're so addictive, and sweet.
Might have to have a break from chocolate for awhile though now.

Monday Menu

So I think you know we love good food, but on holidays we always visit Rob's family, and they take food to another level. We stocked up on supplies before heading away, Italian sparkling wine, a kilo of French cheese, some buffalo mozzarella, four loaves of bread. So we feasted on fresh tomatoes, basil and mozzarella on bread, a leek tart, and baba ganoush out on the deck at Rob's sisters house. Then headed inside for roast beef, duck ballotine, poached salmon, potatoes, stuffed peppers and mushrooms, onion gratin and salad.
After a short interval, beautiful slow roasted quinces, halva ice-cream, chocolate tarts and harvest cake appeared.
The next day we were sent on our way with a box of figs from Rob's parents. Pink and luscious, they make April a favourite time of year.
What else have we eaten over the week? BBQ'd ocean trout served with silverbeet. Pasta puttanesca. A simple paella. Pasta with fresh tomatoes, basil and lemon oil. Figs stuffed with Fetta and pine nuts and wrapped in prosciutto. Rib-eye steak with baked potatoes and mini zucchinis.
A delicious week.
