Maggie: photo credit to Rob for this one of Maggie. Leftover runny egg on her face, tongue poking out and carrying a prized head of broccoli from our garden. This weather has encouraged us to take the girls outside so much more, they love pottering around the place.
Elisabeth: Looking out our bedroom doors (yes Maggie still sleeps in our room, actually everyone has slept in our room the last few nights with the stupid cold making everyone clingy), dressed in her new blue shirt to look like her Papa.

Maggie: Leopard print gumboots and golf ball in hand, she is getting so confident walking around outside now.
Elisabeth: Her expression, those eyes!

A big day today. The girls headed to family day care for the first time. We had visited a few times but they were there on their own for five hours today. They did so well. Despite a little look as we left them, they didn't cry, and got on with enjoying their new learning space, eating well and even going down for a nap relatively easily. We picked them up this afternoon after lunch and they were busy outside enjoying the winter sunshine. It certainly helps that their first day went smoothly, I know there might be bumps ahead, but it was the first time since they have been home that we left them in the care of somebody else and they coped well. They have been in the best of spirits all afternoon laughing, talking to themselves and smiling. So we all have had a good day.

Maggie: Concentrating on the walk down the gravel path to the laundry shed.
Elisabeth: Cheeky smile.

A brief post to join in with Jodi's 52 portrait project this week. I took the photos during a quick sanity saving outdoor adventure yesterday. The girls and I are at various stages of a head cold.  Maggie has been unwell since last Wednesday, with a fever, rash, and now a hacking cough and runny nose. She has been most unhappy, bordering on angry, with frequent melt downs, and needing to be held 24/7 most days. Elisabeth woke up today with a cough and runny nose too, and overnight I have started to get it as well.

Life with toddlers I suspect will involve quite a few of these everyone-is-sick weeks.

Maggie: Walking is finally Maggie's preferred method of transport nowadays. She often pulls a sideways look like this, I think of it as her "Girl with a pearl earring" pose.
Elisabeth: Rob picked this photo from the selection. It wouldn't be my first choice ordinarily, as there is a lot of mess in the background. But I guess that is our life at the moment. Toys and books spread about the room. The winter sunlight pouring into the hut. One girl amusing herself, the other, Elisabeth, is requesting I read what continues to be their favourite book - The Baby's Catalogue. This look is combined with an insistent noise.

Maggie: The girls got to dress up for their cousin's Christening. After the ceremony they were allowed to explore the sanctuary of the church. What a little angel she is!
Elisabeth: Rob took these photos of the girls, there was a funny one of Elisabeth "preaching" to her cousins and sister!
