Monday Menu

I'll let the photos do the talking. Soup, steak, spaghetti puttanesca, soup, cheese, lime and chilli chicken, chicken pilaf, macarons.
That cheese was pretty darn good.
I just completed a job I'd been putting off for awhile- a clean up of the pantry. It looks much better now.
Hope you had a good weekend, we hid inside from the heat only venturing out to take the dogs to the beach.

Another late Friday flowers

Sorry I've been a slack blogger of late. With the week away and a lot of work email to catch up on I have been reading your blog posts just not been good at commenting!
Not many flowers in the garden right now. I'm about to order some spring bulbs, well when I say some, I actually mean 1040. Tulips, ranunculus, daffodils, snowflakes, and anemones.
But Rob bought me a bunch of mini sunflowers to make me smile. They are very happy flowers.

Monday's Menu Megamix

So what's been on the menu?
Vegetables- in the form of stir fries, fresh sweetcorn, pumpkin and rocket salad, baked potatoes and minestrone soup.
Pasta- pesto, Spaghetti Bolognese,
Meat- Roast chicken, slow roasted lamb shanks with quince jelly.

With both of us away last week there was a bit of a hole in my digitally recorded menu (I still feel self conscious about taking photos of food in public and will only really do it if it's just Rob and I. A few people have been teasing me about my Facebook page as I often post images there too - one friend even commented to me as I took a photo of a pavlova I'd made,  "we know it's good if it goes up on your Facebook page!")

However, I did find a little cafe that made great smoothies for breakfast, I had a mango and a espresso whilst staying in Brisbane. The food at the conference hotel and the dinners were surprisingly good. One dinner was served on shared platters for each table. So you got to try fish, lamb, beef, chicken and there were lots of vegetable side dishes too.

What have you been eating recently?

Friday Flowers

So I got back home to the hut yesterday. Whilst I was in Brisbane Rob was leading a week long field trip at Mt Field in Tasmania. He had pretty perfect weather. The dogs were pretty happy to see me but knew that our little "pack" wasn't quite right until he returned. I took Nigella to the dog groomer today. I felt like such a traitor leaving her there to get clipped short. But her coat was out of control and she was so hot.
I was certain she'd be mortified, but she was quite proud! Particularly of the pink bandana the lovely ladies gave her. They said she was very well behaved, which didn't surprise me, she's just a big teddy bear. Claudia wasn't sure it was her, and sniffed her all over!
We picked up Rob from work, the dogs jumped all over him in the car park, quite the reunion. Then we headed home together, I'd made some pizza dough this morning so we're just about to enjoy tomato, pumpkin, olive and anchovy pizza. Happy weekend!

Monday mix up

Sorry I tried to upload my regular post last night, but the blogger app on my phone beat me. So I'll save the pics for a double post next week as I won't be near a real computer for a while.
I enjoyed a quiet weekend-Rob has finished planting the box hedges around my flower gardens and it looks so much better already! Sorry I'll take a photo later in the week.
We visited our favourite local antique store and it was full to the brim with new treasures, not only furniture, but kitchen wear, baskets and now retro clothes. I loved this red dress, but the waist was tiny! I haven't a hope of fitting into it! We did score 3 more Piper-Truline blackwood dining chairs. They're so comfortable, an important factor for enjoying dinner! They are covered in some terrible beige vinyl, but we've still got some red fabric that we can recover them with on a rainy afternoon.
I'm in Brisbane for the next few days for an annual planning meeting for work. My flights were fairly delayed as I was transiting through Sydney and there'd been some serious storm activity slowing down air traffic. So I arrived late, checked into my room and fell asleep (the time difference made it feel even later!)
I've never been to Brisbane before, but sadly I don't have really any time to look around.

Friday Flowers: Happy Birthday Dame Elisabeth

This Friday I wanted to honour a garden hero of mine, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch.

She just celebrated her 103rd birthday on Wednesday. Her attitude to life is quite amazing, but her love of her garden at Cruden Farm in Victoria is what I find most inspiring.

I found out about the garden at Cruden Farm when I was looking for ideas for trees to line our driveway. The iconic photograph of the lemon-scented gums (Eucalyptus citriodora) along the drive at Cruden Farm popped up. I was immediately intrigued. I was given the full colour photograph book Garden of a Lifetime for Christmas, and I was smitten. To see a paddock transform into this grand garden over 84 years is quite inspiring.

I would love to go and visit one day.

Monday's Menu, quickly

Hello, we had a quiet weekend again. I've been a bit distracted this weekend so just a quick post.
Culinary highlights this week included a tomato and vegetable soup with fresh pesto (the basil is still out of control) and a mushroom risotto with sage, orange and hazelnuts.
What's been on the menu at your place?

Space

The grass was slashed on Thursday. Usually we get it made into hay bales but there wasn't a market for it this year. It's probably not a bad thing for it to mulch the pasture. The dogs knew straight away that walks were on again. Neither of us have been keen to walk around in the long grass with the chance of treading on a snake! So we took them on a perimeter walk. All the trees we've planted are getting so big now, they've shot up at least a metre.
The dogs couldn't resist and went for a celebratory swim in the dam. Claudia likes to jump in and make the biggest splash possible. Nigella, on the other hand, knows all the little steps down so she can glide in ensuring she doesn't get water in her ears!
It's nice to have the whole block again.

Snap it: happy

I'm playing along with Snap it over at Faith, Hope & a whole lotta love.
This week is happy.
The following are two pictures of a sunset I took whilst I was flying home. I was only away one night, but it made me very happy to be heading home.
